In French, the word l’éducation doesn’t only mean education, it also means upbringing, raising a child. It means teaching your child how to behave in different situations, what to eat, when to sleep or play, who has what social roles etc. And most importantly, l’éducation doesn’t begin in school, it starts from birth.
I really like this concept, because according to science, between the ages of 2 – 7 – before we start school – are our programming years. During these years our brains operate mostly in theta brainwave cycles, a relatively low frequency of 4 – 8 Hz that allows the brain to “download” and process a vast amount of information offered by parents, caregivers and environment directly into the subconscious mind.
Now think about it: every recurring bahavior pattern, opinion and concept about reality has been saved in your subconscious mind when you were little and now gets activated again and again and again like a programm, without you knowing about it. It includes things like closing the front door when you leave the house or saying Hello when you meet a friend, but also bigger concepts like money, gender, race and maybe even your own worth as a human being. Creepy, right? Well, like it or not, we are all socially “primed” and the only thing we can do is become conscious about it. And then more conscious. As much as possible. Just observe, notice and as we go, we can change the patterns and create a new operating system, step by step. Let’s do this.
